The Vuelta Ciclista a la Comunitat Valenciana Gran Premi Banc Sabadell (VCV) and Tuawa have signed a collaboration agreement to save more than 25,000 plastic bottles in five days during the event and to save the planet from more than 6t of CO2. Tuawa is a sustainable project of Global Omnium and Aguas de Valencia to promote the consumption of tap water, and in this way reducing the carbon footprint and the water footprint of households and companies.
This event will be celebrated in various locations of the Valencian Community during the five stages, and Tuawa will install state-of-the-art filtering systems to these locations to reduce the consumption of plastic bottles and to boost the consumption of water coming directly from the water network. Thanks to this collaboration Tuawa will be able to provide the cyclists, the teams and the public a green solution for hydration, a solution that reduces their impact on the environment. The consumption of single-use plastic bottles from the suppliers of bottled water will be reduced, as well as the water footprint of the competition, since according to data from the University of Queensland, 1.5 liters of bottled water are required a total of 6 liters to produce, bottle and transport it. In this way they will save up to 120,000 liters of water.
The CEO of Tuawa, Juan Monrabal, highlighted the importance of «joining the forces with sustainability and sports, being the best allies for the planet, educating everyone to realize that with a simple gesture we can contribute reducing the effects of climate change. By a simple gesture of drinking tap water a normal family can reduce its carbon footprint by 300%.»
On the other hand, the Director of the Vuelta Ciclista a la Comunitat Valenciana, Ángel Casero, recognized that “the agreement with Tuawa allows us to fulfill one of the objectives of VCV 2022, to organize a race that is clearly positioned on the side of sustainability and caring for the environment ”. «For an event that reaches as many people as the VCV, it is crucial to promote responsible water consumption and we are delighted to be able to do so with Tuawa,» says Ángel Casero.
Currently, our planet emits 10 million tons of plastics a year, pollution that has a strong impact on seas and oceans, and, to avoid it, social awareness is essential. By consuming tap water we also help to eliminate the CO2, that other vice would be produced during the bottled water production and transportation.
