Madrid. January 24, 2025.
The president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco, has delivered this Thursday to Angel Casero, general director of the VCV – Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, the Seal of Sustainable Sports Event of the COE. A distinction awarded by the Olympic entity, which certifies that the 76th edition of the Valencian cycling event is aligned with the SDGs and social and environmental sustainability policies promoted by the COE following the publication of Agenda 2020 of the International Olympic Committee. In addition, the COE seal has been audited by Bureau Veritas, being Pedro González from Bureau Veritas who has delivered such certification.
Among the actions highlighted in the framework of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13: “Climate Action”, is the calculation and verification of the carbon footprint of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (VCV), a rigorous process, which ensures the calculation of emissions generated before, during and after the event. As part of this commitment, the official delivery of the carbon footprint certificate validated by Bureau Veritas has been carried out, consolidating the VCV as a benchmark in the integration of sustainable practices in the sports field.
In the process of awarding this Sustainable Sports Event Seal, as well as in the calculation of the carbon footprint, the organization of the VCV has worked together with the sustainability consultant GO2 of Global Omnium.
Alejandro Blanco was in charge of presiding over the award ceremony held at the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee in Madrid. The Olympic leader congratulated Angel Casero and his team for the organization of this event and for their commitment to health, the environment and the values of sport.
For his part, the general director of the VCV thanked this recognition, which is confirmation that the work has been done well and is an impetus to continue taking measures to make the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, which will take place from 5 to 9 February, more sustainable each year.
Also present at the event were Pablo Tarancón and Csilla Felfoldy, responsible for communication and protocol, respectively, of the VCV – Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana; Juan Luis Pozo, sustainability director of Global Omnium, Ana Pérez and Tania Padua, members of the corporate sustainability area of the company; as well as Pedro González and Concepción Ojeda, responsible for sustainability and business development, respectively, of Bureau Veritas, and Manuel Parga, director of sustainability and marketing of the Spanish Olympic Committee.
