The Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana Gran Premi Banc Sabadell 2022 regains its usual celebration dates in the international cycling calendar. The 73rd edition of the VCV will kick off on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022, with a stage that will finish in Torralba del Pinar. This exciting news was announced on Friday by the director of the VCV, Ángel Casero, and the mayor, Fernando Barrachina, of this municipality located in the province of Castellón. “It is a great honor for a small and humble town like Torralba del Pinar, to host the first stage finish of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, such a prestigious international event”, Barrachina acknowledges.
Torralba del Pinar is located in the spectacular Sierra de Espadán area, therefore it is expected that stirring movements will be witnessed during the first stage of the VCV2022 along with the peloton before crossing the finish line located in this village with 61 permanent inhabitants (census 2020). This stage has a mid-mountain profile, with a fairly demanding mountain pass along the last 3 kilometers before the stage finish, which can end up breaking the peloton into smaller groups shall this be the case. Undoubtedly, the finish zone is located in spectacular surroundings, ideal start of the cycling season on the international cycling calendar.
Up to date the 73rd edition of the VCV has confirmed the presence of the teams such as Jumbo Visma, Israel Start-Up Nation, Deceunick Quick Step, AG2R, Bahrain Victorius, Caja Rural and Arkea; and more are still to be announced.
The VCV will be held again in February, after last year it was forced to delay its dispute until April due to restrictions implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous edition winners have been Tadjed Pogacar in 2020 and the winner of the VCV 2021 was the Swiss cyclist Stefan Küng, double European time trial champion.
