A common place in the calendar last recent years for the Valencian round, which in 2024 will celebrate its 75th edition. The general director of the VCV, cyclist Ángel Casero, is “proud to be able to continue the legacy of a cycling round with the history of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana”, the oldest sporting event currently held in Valencia.
“We like to be one of the first stage tours of the international cycling calendar,” admits Ángel Casero. “In the past, it has been shown that many of the top riders of the international peloton choose the VCV to start their seasons, and also the weather at that time in the Comunitat Valenciana is one of the few that allow the practice of cycling in Europe,” says the director of the Valencian round. “We cannot yet confirm the start or finish locations of any stage, but we are working to offer the Valencian cycling fans the attractive route they deserve,” says Casero.
The Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana will commemorate its 75 editions in 2024. The first of them was held in 1929, but different interruptions due to war conflicts or for economic reasons mean that it will be next year when the 75th anniversary of the race will be celebrated. Legends of the sport such as Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Angelino Soler, Abraham Olano, Alejandro Valverde or Tadej Pogacar have triumphed in Valencia, with the Portuguese Rui Costa being the last winner after an agonizing finish last February in an unprecedented finish line in front of the Oceanogràfic de València.
