In 2002, the town hosted the time trial finish, won by Darío Frigo (Fassa Bortolo) over Swiss rider Alex Zülle (Phonak) by 5 seconds. Frigo went on to win that year’s Vuelta. In 2024, Sant Vicent was the official start of the stage that finished in Orihuela. Coincidentally, in 2026, the start and finish locations were reversed, although the route was different.

Cycling

Facilities for cycling are the main hub for two-wheeled activity. A top-level BMX park is a popular destination for enthusiasts. This circuit has hosted several rounds of the Spanish Championships, featuring the sport’s leading figure, Alejandro Martínez Chorro (Bronze at the 2022 World Championships and Silver at the 2023 European Championships). The local velodrome is a breeding ground for young talent, not only from San Vicente but also from many other towns in Alicante. Field hockey boasts one of the best facilities in Spain.

Economy

The town maintains a protected agricultural area that preserves the region’s agricultural roots. The University of Alicante has a campus in the town, supporting a thriving service sector. However, the robust construction materials, dairy, and fruit and vegetable processing industries play a significant role in Sant Vicent’s diverse wealth generation.

Culture

The Moors and Christians festivals in spring and the Bonfires and Barracas in summer are the highlights of the festivities. The 9 d’Octubre Valencian Literature Prize reaches its 34th edition, and during January and February, a music week is held in homage to the trumpeter Vicente Lillo Cánovas.

Sport

If there’s one athlete who stands out in San Vicente, it’s motorcycle racer Daniel Holgado. Winner of six Grand Prix races in Moto3 (4) and Moto2 (2), he currently rides for the Aspar Team. Runner-up in the 2024 Moto3 World Championship, he’s adapting quickly to the new category. He’s a title contender for 2026.

Gastronomy

The contribution to the cuisine of San Vicente del Raspeig features “pericana” (found throughout the province of Alicante, but with a particular touch here), sardine cocas and rice with cod and cod skin.
