The history of Algemesí in the VCV is short, but intense. The town of La Ribera Alta was present in the first edition in 1929 and saw Salvador Carmona, the first overall winner in the history of the race, win in its streets. Another legend, Bernardo Ruiz, crossed the finish line first in Algemesí in 1954. Three years later, the town hosted the start of the race, being the last time the VCV cycling caravan visited Algemesí.
