VCV & Sustainability
At the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, in tight collaboration with GO.2 by Global Omnium, we are working to consolidate our commitment to sustainability and to be more environmentally friendly every day. The event has had firm objectives since its inception, but we want to continue improving every year and implementing strategies to reduce our impact on the environment

Waste management and recycling
Waste management during the race:

Since 2016, a team has been assigned to collect waste immediately after the passing of the cycling caravan. With this, we ensure that the natural areas and passing localities of the VCV maintain the good condition in which they were before the event was held.

In addition, the organisers set up strategic waste deposit points managed by the company SAV to make it easier for cyclists to deposit the waste they generate during the race itself, thus preventing it from being dumped uncontrolled along the entire route.

Waste recycling:

At VCV 2025, we are committed to the best treatment of the waste generated during the event and to the use of recycling and reuse techniques in order to minimise the impact of the event on the environment.

Second life to our tarpaulins:

The tarpaulins used during the event become new products thanks to ‘A La Lona de Valencia’, an association dedicated to the social and labour integration of people with mental health problems, which transforms them into bags, backpacks, wallets and other everyday objects.

Water treatment
Consumption of filtered water:

Since 2022 we have found an alternative to bottled water with the help of TUAWA, the consumption of filtered water in glass bottles. Thanks to this initiative, we have saved the planet more than 75,000 plastic bottles and avoided almost 20 tonnes of CO2 in the atmosphere in the last 3 years.

Awareness-raising workshops:

Since 2022, at the event, we have been running awareness-raising workshops on the care of the oceans and marine fauna with Fundación Azul Marino and the Oceanogràfic de Valencia.

Use of energy
Vehicles ECO Hyundai:

In 2017 we pioneered the use of sustainable cars at an international event. Today, all the vehicles used at the event by the organisers are powered by Hyundai’s ECO technology.

Solar panels:

In the next editions we will implement the use of solar panels at the start and finish areas and signature controls.

Promoting sustainable mobility
Pedal for the Planet:

Since 2023, in October, the VCV organisers, in collaboration with Tuawa, have been holding ‘Pedal for the Planet’, an awareness-raising event prior to the race to encourage Valencians to use bicycles as a sustainable and healthy means of transport.

Road improvements:

Contribution to the improvement of road infrastructures in the areas through which the race passes. In 2023 the section of the mountain pass of La Frontera in the Sierra Calderona was patched.

Conservation of the natural environment
Affected areas:

Since 2016, the organisation of the VCV has been trying to trace routes that cross areas affected by forest fires in order to raise awareness of the importance of fire prevention and reforestation. As well as making publications on social networks of the same.

International visibility:

Since 2016, the VCV gives international visibility through television to the different natural landscapes that the race crosses and, with this, raise awareness about their importance in the ecosystems.

Proximity providers

Since our beginnings, we have been committed to local suppliers and to supporting the economy of our community, thus reducing carbon emissions and waste production by avoiding long journeys of products. These are some of our local suppliers: Murviedro, Marcos Automoción, Autocares Torres, Barberà Asesores, Mavidre, Mercovasa, Electrofassar.

Sustainable products
VCV Jerseys:

In 2024 we committed ourselves with the help of GOBIK to promote more sustainable fashion. For years now, all event jerseys have been made from at least 60% recycled materials. The garments have fibres made from recycled plastic bottles or surplus from previous productions. In addition, consistent packaging is used which minimises the labelling of our garments and includes only the essential product information.

Cava:

With the help of MURVIEDRO in 2025 all our cavas at podium celebrations will be organic and produced using environmentally friendly techniques.

Gymsacks:

Since 2016, gymsacks have been given to event volunteers to avoid the use of plastic.

Trophies:

Since 2020, a large part of the trophies that are awarded to the winners of the different stages are produced from recycled material.

Distinctions

The VCV – Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana 2023 officially certified, thanks to Global Omnium and for the first time in the field of international cycling, its carbon footprint with AENOR, according to the international standard ISO14064. In 2025, thanks to our agreement with GO.2 by Global Omnium, we will re-measure and certify the carbon footprint of the VCV 2025, with the aim of gradually reducing it in future editions.
